It's 1350 and the Black Death is receding, leaving the known world bled dry and blackened by war and disease. Yet, in all this time, Hungary has managed to endure.
The kingdom of Hungary at the start of 1350 is in a somewhat powerful position. Not only is its one-time rival, the Holy Roman Empire, collapsed, the Hungarian kingdom is also rich and powerful. Hungarian power is distributed over three territories: the Hungarian lands of Transdanubia and the Central Plains.
As for the rest of eastern Europe, it is an utter mess, especially on the Adriatic seaboard. The Venetians control a supply base in Istria, and could potentially threaten you. At the same time, there is a new group of Germans who have risen to prominence — the Habsburgs. Thus there is a very delicate diplomatic situation to your northeast which you need to be careful about.
The Mongols in their retreat eastward as well as the wars in Germany have rendered many parts of Europe depopulated and chaotic. Try and gain control of Wallachia as well as Bohemia in order to gain enough armies to overrun depopulated parts of Europe so that you will be able to strengthen your domain and to keep a buffer zone between your enemies. the Carpathians are also a potential takeover target, but doing so may expose you to trouble from the Poles and Russians who may have designs on this part of Central Europe.
